The modern concrete was invented in 1756 by British engineer, John Smeaton. He added pebbles and mixed powdered bricks as a composite into the cement and thus developed the hydraulic cement. The Portland cement was invented by English inventor, Joseph Aspdin in 1824. He burned clay and ground limestone collectively and created the first true artificial cement.
