When was the Kaleidoscope invented?

The Scottish scientist, Sir David Brewster in the year 1816 invented the kaleidoscope and in 1817, he patented it. Kaleidoscope is a toy that consists of a tube comprising of mirrors, colored glass pieces or paper. When the tube is rotated its reflections produces colorful patterns that are visible through an eyehole.
