In 1784, Benjamin Franklin invented daylight savings time. He wrote a satirical essay “An Economical Project” in which he claimed to have discovered it. Then in 1907, a builder named William Willett used the idea and suggested to shift the time 20 minutes forward on each of four Sundays in April, and then shifted it back 20 minutes at a time over the course of four Sundays in September.
