In 1965, a researcher Mr. James Schlatter discovered aspartame accidentally at G.D. Searle and Company in the United States. Aspartame is a low-calorie sweetener that is used as a substitute to sugar in many food consume by us every day such as dairy products, chewing gums, candies, carbonated beverages, fruit spreads and in many more food items. It is approximately 200 times sweeter than the normal sugar.
